ep 3
“So, what now? Where do we go?” Konan asked, glancing at Orok.
Orok stroked his chin, his fins glinting in the moonlight. “Monaky is powerful, young one. You’ll need a weapon to awaken your true strength: the Staff of Truth. To find it, we must journey through the Ancient Aeronads.” “Ancient Aeronads, huh?” Konan crossed his arms. “Sounds... ominous.”
“Our journey begins at dawn,” Orok continued, completely ignoring him. “Rest now, son of prophecy. Tomorrow, your story truly begins.” Konan frowned.
“I don’t feel tired. I thought time works differently here or something?” Orok smirked. “I wouldn’t know. This is the only time I’ve ever known.”
“Fair point,” Konan said, shrugging. “And I’m guessing I can’t go without you?”
“Correct,” Orok replied.
“But if you’re restless, feel free to explore. Just don’t wander too far, or you might get lost.”
Before Konan could respond, his stomach let out a loud growl. “Grrrrrr…” Orok raised an eyebrow. “Uh... I’m hu—” Without a word, Orok handed him a fishing spear. “Here. Something to keep you busy.” He chuckled as he lay down on the grass, his fins folding behind him like a makeshift pillow. Konan sighed, looking at the rod.
“Oh, he did not.” Grumbling, he walked toward the shallow stream nearby, wading into the water. He jabbed the rod repeatedly at the fish darting past him but only succeeded in splashing himself. “Arghhh! This is pointless!” Another growl came from his stomach. “But I’m hungry!” Konan groaned, squatting in the water. That’s when he noticed something. A small creature stood at the edge of the bushes, watching him curiously. It looked like a mix of a bird and a squirrel, with feathery tufts sticking out from its head and a long tail that flicked nervously. Its bright eyes locked onto Konan’s, and before he could speak, it bolted. “Wait!” Konan yelled, leaping out of the stream. He sprinted after the creature, his wet feet slipping on the grass.
The little Monad scurried up a tree, looking back with a mischievous glint in its eye. Konan tried to climb after it, but halfway up, his grip failed. Thump! “Oww!” Konan groaned, rubbing his back. Above him, the little Monad giggled and hopped to another tree.
“Oh, you little…. ” Konan gritted his teeth, now fully determined to catch it.
The chase continued through the forest until the creature, still laughing, pushed something down from the branches “a hornet’s nest.” “Wait, wait NO!” Konan yelled, ducking as the nest shattered on the ground. But these weren’t ordinary hornets. Their wings crackled with energy, and their stingers glowed ominously. “Ahhh!” Konan screamed as the hornets swarmed him.
Forgetting about the chase, he turned and bolted. The little Monad, now perched near a mud pool, pointed at the murky water and squeaked urgently.
“Jump in? Are you serious?” Konan yelled, swatting at the hornets. The creature nodded vigorously. “Ugh! Alright, screw it!” Konan yelled. “FINE!”
He leaped into the pool, bracing for the worst but it wasn’t mud. The liquid was thick and sweet, almost like syrup, and the hornets recoiled instantly, retreating into the forest. Konan sat there, drenched and sticky, glaring at the little Monad, who was now laughing hysterically at the edge of the pool.
“Oh, you think this is funny, huh?” Konan growled, lunging forward and grabbing the creature. “Gotcha!” he said triumphantly as the Monad let out a startled squeak. “Let’s see how funny you think this is now,” Konan muttered, holding the squirming creature up like a trophy. But before he could do anything, a massive shadow loomed over him.
The little Monad stopped squirming, its eyes lighting up with recognition. “Mama!” it chirped happily. Konan froze. “Mama? I’m not your mama, you little …” He trailed off as he turned around, his eyes widening at the sight of a much larger Monad.
This one was enormous, towering over him with thick, armored skin and glowing yellow eyes. “Oh-mama,” Konan muttered. Before he could react, the larger Monad raised a massive paw and knocked him out cold.
Everything went black.
