Black and white shot of a phono preamplifier (RIAA) from British Sugden Audio, which was founded in Founded by James Sugden in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire, 1967. Sugden's famous for its 'house sound' encapsulated in their motto: 'Rescuing Music from Technology' and pure-class A integrated and power amplifiers.
It paired really, really well with my Sugden A21SE Signature amplifier. No pipe & slippers sound here - it's about precision, details, balance, fluency, pacing and sufficient dynamics. It's a versatile RIAA design offering support for both MM & MC cartridges/pickups through manual settings of jumpers.
From the factory it's preset to MM amplification levels.
This means it can be used with MC pickups/cartridges with either a Step Up Transformer or directly without through the jumper settings.Heavy build quality, some would refer to it being built like tank, and high quality components.
I regret not having taken a couple of photos of its insides before upgradring/side-grading to a tube-based Leben RS-30EQ RIAA from Japanese Leben Hi-Fi Stereo Company.
