Starting on November 1, 2024, the pathway offers three essential stages, each carrying its own set of challenges and rewards, designed to build strong, positive, and impactful leaders.

This pathway’s progressive structure acknowledges the diverse contributions and evolving skills of each member. Here’s an inside look at each stage:

  1. Gakusei (Learner): Every journey begins at Gakusei, where members participate actively in community events, discussions, and offer support to others. The emphasis here is on learning and engagement, nurturing a strong foundation in the values and goals of Mitosis.

  2. Daigakusei (Contributor): As members deepen their involvement, they may progress to Daigakusei, taking on greater responsibilities by guiding Gakusei members, contributing original ideas, and helping organize projects. This role emphasizes collaboration and valuable contributions, marking members as integral parts of the community.

  3. Sensei (Master): The ultimate role within Mitosis, the Sensei, is reserved for individuals who consistently demonstrate their commitment, expertise, and dedication to community development. Senseis steer the community’s direction, foster partnerships, and mentor emerging leaders.

Entering the Pathway: From Learner to Contributor

In the new structure, moving from Gakusei to Daigakusei is about both accumulating praise and contributing quality insights and ideas. For Daigakusei members who wish to reach Sensei, the path is challenging yet rewarding. This role represents the highest level of influence within the community, and the requirements reflect that dedication:

  • Time and Engagement: Daigakusei members who maintain a strong presence in the community for at least two weeks and continue to earn praise for valuable contributions become eligible for Sensei consideration.

  • High-Quality Praise: Senseis must actively use the Praise system, regularly acknowledging the efforts of others to ensure a vibrant and encouraging atmosphere within the community.

Sensei candidates undergo a bi-weekly review by current Senseis, and successful applicants are those who have demonstrated an exceptional level of support and leadership.

Sustaining and Growing as a Sensei

The Sensei role comes with responsibilities, such as engaging in Discord discussions, giving regular feedback to others, and contributing to strategic decisions in the community. Senseis are also expected to support nominations for new leaders and recognize emerging talent through their praise and guidance. These expectations ensure that Senseis remain dedicated contributors, fostering an environment that promotes positive, sustainable growth.

For Senseis who may need a break, the Emeritus Sensei status allows past leaders to be honored for their contributions while stepping back from active participation.
