In the previous story, we talked about how Old Gao sent his relative Gao Cai on a long journey to find a powerful person to subdue the pig monster, Zhu Ganglie. Before Gao Cai could go far, he was stopped by two monks who wanted to ask for directions and a place to stay. Gao Cai was in a hurry and didn't want to deal with them, but one of the monks, who looked like a monkey, stopped him.
This monk, who looked like a monkey, was none other than the main character in the recent Black myth——Sun Wukong.
Back to our current story, Gao Cai wanted to leave, but Sun Wukong wouldn't let him. Gao Cai got angry and asked, "I'm not the only person in our village, why do you have to ask me for directions?" Sun Wukong, seeing that he was angry, smiled and said, "If you help me, I can help you too. Just tell me the name of this place, and I can help you with your troubles."
Gao Cai couldn't leave and, cornered, had no choice but to tell the truth, hoping that after he spoke, the other party would let him hurry on his way. Gao Cai said that Old Gao had sent him to find a powerful person to subdue the monster son-in-law in their home.
After hearing this, Sun Wukong laughed and said he could help them with this problem. He knew how to catch monsters, his master was a high monk from the Tang Dynasty in the east. They were on their way to the West to worship Buddha and seek scriptures, and they were good at subduing monsters and binding monsters.
Gao Cai heard that he had come from Datang, and now that he was trapped by Monkey King, he had no choice but to go back to Gao Tai Gong's house. Upon hearing that they were high monks from the Tang Dynasty, Old Gao thought they might have some magical powers and invited them in.
After explaining the whole story, Sun Wukong asked Old Gao to take him to the backyard to see the locked room. Upon arriving, Sun Wukong touched the lock and found that the keyhole had been sealed with copper juice. He smashed open the door and asked Old Gao to find his daughter, Cui Lan.
While Old Gao reunited with his daughter, Sun Wukong told the two to take care of his master, promising to catch Zhu Ganglie that night. Then, they all left the backyard, and Sun Wukong transformed into Cui Lan's form and hid in the inner room, using an illusion to restore the door to its original state.
In the evening, Sun Wukong, in the guise of Cui Lan, asked in detail about Zhu Ganglie's residence and background, then frightened him by saying that Old Gao had gone to find a master to catch him. Unexpectedly, Zhu Ganglie was not afraid at all, claiming that he used to be Marshal Tian Peng, and all the heavenly immortals knew him, so they wouldn't bother him.
Sun Wukong, still disguised as Cui Lan, then said that he had heard that this time they had invited the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, who had caused a great disturbance in the Heavenly Palace five hundred years ago. This time, Zhu Ganglie was scared and turned to run. But Sun Wukong shouted, "monster, where going? Look up and see who I am!"
Sun Wukong transformed back to his original form, and when Zhu Ganglie saw him, he fled, turning into myriads of firelight, running towards his residence. Sun Wukong saw him running away and immediately followed. They arrived at Zhu Ganglie's residence, the Yunzhan Cave, and fought from night until dawn. Seeing that it was about to get light, Sun Wukong thought about reporting back to Tang Sanzang, so he noted down the name and location of the Yunzhan Cave and returned to report.
After reporting to Tang Sanzang, Sun Wukong went to the Yunzhan Cave again to find Zhu Ganglie. Zhu Ganglie hid inside the cave, but couldn't stand Sun Wukong's harsh scolding and came out of the cave in anger, fighting with Sun Wukong again.
During the fight, Zhu Ganglie said, "Why don't you stay in your Water Curtain Cave and come to my place to bully me? Did Old Gao invite you?"
Sun Wukong replied, "I've reformed and am protecting the eminent monk from the Tang Dynasty to go to the West to retrieve scriptures. I heard about this matter while passing by and staying here, Old Gao asked me to save his daughter and catch you."
Upon hearing this, Zhu Ganglie realized that the scripture retrievers the Bodhisattva had mentioned earlier were Sun Wukong and Tang SanZang. He immediately put down his weapons and went back with Sun Wukong to take Tang Sanzang as his master, continue the journey to the West to retrieve scriptures.
Before leaving, Zhu Ganglie told Old Gao that if the scripture retrieval failed, he would come back and marry Old Gao's daughter, which was scolded by Sun Wukong.
And so, the three disciples of Tang Sanzang continued their journey to the West to retrieve the scriptures.
So, who did Sun Wukong learn these skills from, and why did he cause such a disturbance in the Heavenly Palace?
Stay tuned for tomorrow's update.
