“Time will tell whether the physical vessel is able to overcome these limitations by the will of the mind.”
Striving On
More than 72 hours passed since the beginning of the experiment. On this third day, the symptoms of sleep deprivation had become a lot more intense. Daily tasks at work were completed, albeit with more effort and it took a lot longer compared to the day before. K had spent the majority of his day either standing up or sitting down with back straight. The REM pressure was very intense throughout the night and only slightly gentler during the day. There is a huge tendency to close one’s eyes as the wave of drowsiness hits, it is almost with certainty that in periods of severe sleep deprivation, if one closes his/her eyes for prolonged periods of time in a sleep-prone body position, the mind will fall into sleep/REM sleep for sure. This is why sleep-prone positions must be avoided in these chaotic periods.
Subtle Changes in the Mental Experience
During other times of the day, it was relatively peaceful. According to K, there was this constant foggy mental haze that was forming around the mind and the environment, most of the time there is a relaxing sensation to it. When there was a need for the mind to focus, the haze adjusted itself and the area where the mind was focusing on became sharp, this was very noticeable in the visual sense, but also apparent in the auditory, olfactory and tactile sensations, where certain parts of the body might suddenly become numb to movement, but when attention was directed to it, it became functional again, the mechanism where the mind is communicating with the body via neural pathways became very apparent when it was observed from this perspective. Daily tasks were done with relative ease if it was during periods of alertness. Time will tell whether the physical vessel is able to overcome these limitations by the will of the mind.
