In the fall of 1993, during my senior year at Flushing High School, I was assigned as the yearbook photographer, and the experience helped forge an instant connection with photography. Yet the road to my identity as a fine art photographer and artist has traversed through diverse terrain. My academic pursuits led me through the corridors of electrical engineering school, where I delved into the art of web development. Later, my quest for knowledge led me to business school, where the art of marketing unfolded its vibrant canvas.
With my educational pursuits behind me, I ventured into the start-up world by helping establish several non-profits and small businesses. As the hands of time stretched across two decades, destiny finally revealed itself. As fate would have it, during a local Latino food festival in Washington, D.C., in 2013, I embraced a digital camera that rekindled my calling to become a fine art photographer and artist.
Since then, I’ve been on this artist journey capturing moments that now reside in my personal archive collection that I am finally ready to share with the world and on the blockchain. Also, from the beginning, part of my focus has been documenting Latinos’ contribution to the United States.
As I pause to reflect at this juncture of my career, a remarkable synergy has emerged. My artistic style has finally harmonized with my photographic prowess and creative voice. This equilibrium has propelled me to a pivotal moment where my work is unique enough to grace the walls of homes, galleries, institutions, and even on the blockchain.
As I look back on my own body of work, certain images stand out, embodying the essence of decisive moments frozen in time. This particular piece below encapsulates the inception of my journey. Captured during the inaugural Latin Flavor Fest in the iconic Bullpen in Washington, D.C., in the fall of 2013, a digital painting emerged from this candid snapshot of two souls entwined by the rhythm of music and the richness of Latin culture. I’ve titled this vibrant creation “Day One,” encapsulating the essence of that serendipitous moment.
