Imposter Syndrome? 🤥
Loads to learn, plenty to do, don’t worry, we’ll teach you. We start from zero and level-up together.
Requirements 🏋️♀️
Knowing a system, skill, or set of instructions is easy. Teaching it to others is hard. Great Leads are hyper-validators, cheerleaders of our members past every milestone, while keeping firm boundaries.
Hyper-validation with zero coddles given.
⛔️ Coddling ≠ Kindness
Coddling is the over-protecting others. We all do it, mostly out of empathy. However, while caring and looking out for others is usually a good thing, it can also undermine their journey and their growth if they become reliant on our sympathies.
Side effects💊 : dependency, melodrama, fear of difficult conversations, fragile egos, and a sense of entitlement. Withdrawal may cause discomfort, and even resentment.
✅ Hyper-Validation
Hyper-validation means regularly and publicly praising people when they learn independently, complete tasks or reach milestones. By openly celebrating their win in front of everyone it not only motivates them, it also motivates the entire group. This positive cycle shared wins reinforces a feeling of momentum, and a culture of proactiveness leaving members with an ever compounding sense of confidence.
✅ Normalise failure like it were a stutter
We allow members to succeed or fail on their own; we high-validate them for their acheivements, and for their failures: we offer a hand to get up, however, they must do the walking. We don’t debate about an put focus on the fall, we merely focus on moving forward.
When we give them a hand to get up we Validate → Opportunity → Support
When they flake away, let them, don’t rescue them. We’re here when come back.
📝 Followups = Presence + Deliverables
✅ Don’t rely on your memory to track everyones journey; use your Trello and Follow up Master sheet. Follow up once per week.
⛔️ Goals such as “Improve social media”, “make more posts”, “find more Ambassadors” have no ‘Validation Moment’ - and zero satisfaction.
✅ Break it down into small easy jobs such as “Make 4 FB group posts in March” - we call these Delvierables.
✅ In a FollowUp we say “Make 4 FB group posts in March”, but the action of a FollowUp says “I’m here, I'm with you, I got you”
🧩 “Say V.O.S. not YOU” · Some Frameworks
💡 Validate - Opportunity - Support (VOS)
Validate - Mention a positive to reinforce something they do well.
Opportunity - Mention an opportunity you identified for them to improve their situation
Support - Remind them that you’re hear to help
“Your welcome post was spot on .. 5 people replied, if you ask them questions about themselves they’ll likely lock-in .. if you’re not sure how, I can help you with that”
“This photo album is pure fire .. in the album description we could put the description and group link to funnel people in .. I can pass you the template if you like”
💡 Critique → Contribute
Encourages people to:
-
Name the problem clearly
-
Give context (why it matters / where it came from)
-
Offer a proposal (what to do instead)
This keeps criticism grounded and immediately oriented toward solutions.
Example:
“We’ve seen a drop in number of participants in the group (problem). It might be because people who attend the event from other sources don’t know there’s an online group (context). How about handing out the cards to every new participant (solution).”
💡 Short & Sweet
Short - 🌽 Don’t write paragraphs
If you can’t say it quickly, better not to say it all. Come back when your ideas are clearer, get help from ChatGPT, or invite them into a call. Sending long paragraphs can come off as an intense lecture.
Sweet - Avoid saying “YOU”, it feels like a finger pointing into the chest.
⛔️ “You should” - “you need to” - “you didn’t do x”
✅ “X is needed” - “I’d suggest X” - “X is as a great move” - “Doing X will solve that”
🏆 Praise in Public
By praising in public, we elevate examples, and the example leads everyone.
💫 Anger Management
-
Don’t air dirty laundry in public chats.
-
Negative statements avoided, speak with solutions, (turn everything into positive)
-
Recognise when you’re not emotionally sober, step away from the keyboard!
