The Meta Nobody Wants to Talk About
Yeah, most of what you’re seeing from that old shoebox of memorabilia once called Web3 (you know, the one with the embarrassing photos you want no one to see that’s buried in your closet) is just sprint campaigns, vanity utilities, and impulse marketing — the current meta and same old same old.
People are starting to realize that getting real quality means tapping into markets like the U.S., and that’s far too expensive — not just financially, but culturally and politically.
To make it in Western markets, you need more than just fancy words and copycat tech. Everyone knows the obvious — you have to pay to play, but there is more to it than that.
You need grit, tact, and a willingness to be vulnerable and make sacrifices while still being aggressive when it counts. Timing, drive, and awareness are everything.
Hard work beats talent when talent isn’t working hard. That’s not just a cute slogan here — it’s gospel. And knowing how to network or play the game is only one small part of the solution in the land of opportunity.
Not East vs. West — Reality vs. Fantasy
And let me be clear — this isn’t about bashing the East or glorifying the West.
It’s about pointing out a reality that’s obvious if you’re willing to look.
Most are too busy playing kumbaya, parading around in an idealistic fantasy where everyone’s effort is treated equally, no matter how lazy or performative it is.
Eastern businesses are smart. They’re capitalizing on the trends, convincing the next generation that Western methods are “outdated” or “evil,” while quietly building their own nationalistic, insular vibe in APAC — marketing themselves as the rebellious counter-culture.
But here’s the inconvenient truth:The money, power, and influence are still in the West.
And the heat to play in this kitchen? It’s hotter than ever.
Boys and Girls vs. Men and Women
In the US, it’s not about appearances or saving face as much as one may think when it’s time to shake hands and put pen to paper — US markets separate the actors from who’s really about that life real quick.
There is less care about how something looks and a hell of a lot more on how it works and how it will drive the bottom line — about getting the damn job done instead of living inside a dream world of idealism.
And while I won’t put certain groups or companies directly under the gun… not yet… it’s time to call out a painful reality:
Many Web3 companies are refusing to offer jobs to people who don’t live in the time zones they operate in — cough, APAC.
The truth is, they’d rather find cheap labor they can exploit than pay people what they’re actually worth.
It’s not about “timezone collaboration” like they pretend. It’s about cheap slaves they can overwork for $100 to $1000 a month, without having to comply with real labor laws or regulations.
They know they can’t compete head-to-head in a regulated, fair market. Selling out their own people is seen as an easier way out.
And that’s what hurts the most.
Because the sad part is — many of the people trapped in that system deserve so much more.
A lot of the ones I talk to know it. They agree. But they’re stuck — afraid to lose their “comfortable” remote jobs that barely pay a survival wage.
And honestly? I get it. Not everyone’s trying to be Da Vinci — some are just trying to survive another quarter.
I respect the hustle. But if we don’t start rebuilding with real backbone again, there won’t be much left to survive for.
This isn’t building a future. It’s strip-mining it.
Buzzwords, Bots, and Bullshit
That’s intimidating for a crypto culture built on hiding behind PFPs, keyboards, screens, and well-choreographed TED Talks.
Out there, volume is the game — and yes, they have plenty of it. But that’s going to burn out real quick, because there’s no real value being created when the entire playbook is just copy-paste and buzzword vomit.
Ideas are being overcomplicated on purpose — designed to farm hype by slapping the buzzword of the week onto half-baked concepts.
"AI agents posting on Twitter!"
Impressive? Please. That shit’s been happening for years.
You're not a visionary because you connected an LLM to a scheduler.
Real innovation comes with risk and sacrifice. It takes more than binge-watching Steve Jobs’ keynotes and Naval Ravikant’s podcasts.
It takes building something so raw, so real, that it could collapse at any second — and doing it anyway.
VC Culture Is a Big Part of the Problem
What's sad is that VC culture is reinforcing the rot.
Startups and businesses aren't chasing buzzwords because they believe in them — they're doing it because they have to pay the bills.
And let's be honest — if we keep going down this path, it won't end well for anyone.
There are plenty of ways for everyone to eat at this table if they'd just pull their heads out of their asses and start building instead of pandering.
The Gold Rush Myth
Right now, people are being sold on the idea that there's a gold rush.
Meanwhile, the ones who really understand what's happening?
They're not digging for gold. They're selling the shovels.
You want to make a real change? Then stop selling it. Start doing it.
The world doesn't owe you anything. None of us.
At the end of the day, we're all just grains of sand on a beach so massive that it's beyond comprehension.
What's relevant now will be irrelevant soon enough.
Final Thoughts
Who are they? Grin. The shady wannabe entrepreneurs binging too many motivational videos, the greedy and clueless VCs, the protocols that have no idea what they're doing but somehow convinced someone to hand them money, and the shallow influencers of yesterday fighting to stay relevant.
Even the so-called thought leaders — they know who they are. The very same ones looking at this thinking, "Who the fuck is this guy?"
Who matters then? People do. The user. The content creator.
Remember them?
But hey, what do I know?
I'm just a wanderer. An observer. A guy who likes to wear hats.
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm ignorant. Maybe I'm just another voice yelling into the void while the parade marches on.
But at least I'm willing to pull back the curtain and give those out there a real fighting chance — to show you what's actually behind the veil.
And guess what? I even managed to write this without needing an AI to do it for me.
