Have we reached a point where the rest of the world just views our country as one giant meme?
For those who are unaware of what a meme is, here is the definition:
an image, video, piece of text, etc., typically humorous in nature, that is copied and spread rapidly by internet users, often with slight variations.
Our policies and ideologies seem to be in direct conflict with our actions, and because of this, we are now turning into one giant internet meme.
For example:
The United States government has claimed for decades that our biggest threat is communism. We spent the better part of three decades overthrowing governments around the world who had adopted this philosophy, and even going so far as to engage in a cold war with the greatest nuclear threat the world has ever seen.
Yet, despite all of this, who is our number one trade partner? The CCP, i.e., the Chinese Communist Party
Farther down the top 35 list are countries like Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and Malaysia, which are some of the United States trade partners and also practice sharia law.
We also allow China to peg their currency to our currency, which gives them a global advantage in trade due to the strength of the dollar and the near-zero interest rates. (2)
Countries like Egypt receive billions of dollars in aid each year but still practice sharia law, as seen in the article below. Jordan has similar practices as Egypt and also receives funding.

Ukraine still has statues of avowed racist and anti-Semite Stepan Bandera(1), yet receives funding every year.
Prior to the invasion of Iraq and Syria, these were also countries practicing sharia law, yet we invaded them and not the other countries with the same practices. The inconsistency in our actions could be seen as suspect and defiantly "meme-able.”
This is not anything new for the United States given its track record of having words like “all men are created equal” in their legal documents to form a nation while simultaneously moving people off their land and shipping others 4,000 miles for enslavement against their will and then proceeding to deny them basic freedoms for another 100 years thereafter. This level of hypocrisy is not uncommon in the United States, and some would even argue it is ingrained in their total being.

To be fair, it is not all bad state side, but most of this is quite concerning, and the United States would be wise to start understanding that the rest of the world will not tolerate this behavior anymore and to “unmeme” ourselves so to speak. We would be better off recognizing these hypocrisies and looking to right the ship away from these dangerous entities as opposed to engaging in trade and providing funding for countries that hold value systems in opposition to our own.
