It has been over two months since the ETH Latam edition in Central America and events such as ETH Volcano, the ETH Guatemala hackathon, and other regional meetups. Central America is more vibrant than ever, and with great joy, we welcome ETH Nica, the first Ethereum community in Nicaragua.
Nicaragua, Land of Lakes and Volcanoes
The country's official name is the Republic of Nicaragua. Located in Central America, its capital and most populous city is Managua, although it was previously León. It is the largest country in Central America.
El Salvador has accustomed us to its postcards of volcanoes and Bitcoin, but it is not the only country with volcanoes in Central America. Nicaragua, located within the Pacific Ring of Fire, has 25 volcanoes, some of which are still active.
Nicaragua's lakes, with their tranquil beauty and diverse ecosystems, add another layer of charm to the country's natural wonders. One of the most notable is Lake Nicaragua, the largest in Central America, with an area of over 8,000 square kilometers.

It was these unique features of their country's geography that inspired the ETH Nica team to design their logo:
Rubén Darío, the renowned poet, was born in Nicaragua. In one of his poems called "Retorno," he dedicated these verses to his nation:
"…Vibrant, intense, passionate, proud people;
people who have the consciousness of being alive,
and who, gathering their energies in a portentous bundle,
Demonstrate to the vigorous Homeland
that they can bravely present in their right-hand
the steel of war or the olive of peace…"

My illusions, desires, and hopestell me
that no small homeland exists.
And León is today to me like Rome or Paris…"
ETH Nica, the First Ethereum Community in Nicaragua
ETH Nica aims to share resources and knowledge about Ethereum technology and how to develop within the ecosystem. Elena is leading the community. She's a developer who works as a cryptographic engineer conducting implementations and audits in the blockchain world. Elena already has experience in tech communities, having organized several technology meetups in Managua, focusing on introducing people to web3 topics. Elena is not alone; her friend Jason Fuentes accompanies her in setting up the initiative.
What challenges does Nicaragua face in terms of technology? Elena explains: "There is much to develop and learn in technology here. We don't have a huge tech community (yet), and an exclusively technical blockchain community didn't exist. So, it's inspiring to share about this and learn together."
ETH Nica is the first Ethereum community but not the first crypto/blockchain community. Alejandro Arana, only 22 years old, has been a tireless promoter of Blockchain in his country. He founded Blockchain 505, an educational space and an excellent ally for the emerging community.
ETH Nica has already organized its first events with the help of Ahmed Castro, a Honduran developer and educator, and also with the participation of Simoneth, another educator from Venezuela.
Elena emphasizes that the community's technical imprint will be its differentiator, and it will seek to connect with developers in the country.
